NorthStar uses innovative Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) thin plate technology to deliver superior performance.
AGM batteries differ from flooded lead acid batteries in that the electrolyte is absorbed in glass mats, as opposed to freely flooding the plates. Very thin glass fibers are woven into a mat to increase surface area enough to hold sufficient electrolyte on the cells for their lifetime. This increased surface area and increased electrolyte are part of why NorthStar AGM batteries have such high energy density. This design also means NorthStar AGM Batteries can be recharged much faster than flooded lead-acid batteries.
NorthStar AGM batteries have a longer expected float life of 12+ years, with high stable voltage delivery. They also have the widest operating temperature range, delivering superior performance at lower temperatures.
"AGM batteries are maintenance free, safer for the environment, and safer to use."
AGM batteries are maintenance free, safer for the environment, and safer to use - they have no water levels to check or terminals to clean, without risks of dangerous acid spills, and can be installed in any position. They are classified as “Non-spillable Batteries” for convenient shipping, with a shelf life of more than two times that of conventional lead-acid batteries.
NorthStar AGM batteries are used in a wide range of applications, including telecommunications, cable TV, emergency lighting, load leveling, hybrid electric vehicles, engine start, uninterrupted power supply, computer back-up, medical equipment, solar power, data processing, electronic, defense, aviation, oil and gas industry, and material handling.
NorthStar uses an advanced version of this technology in our AGM Thin Plate Pure Lead and AGM Thin Plate Lead Carbon batteries.
